We have an old white refrigerator that looks really plain and out of place in the cupboards I installed in our cabin. I'd love to replace it with a stainless steel model but the old one works fine, it's just the colour that I don't like. So has anyone simply spray painted old appliances to change the colour?
What colours besides white might look good in a rustic setting? (In my case amber coloured old varnished knotty pine walls, slightly yellowed natural maple cupboards.)

Well, I'm a girl and like to take into account the whole room so do you have a color scheme in your kitchen or do you want to make a statement with the fridge? Or do you want it to "fit" better in the cabin itself? If I were painting it, I'd go bold and have fun with it but that's just me, lol. I redecorated my current kitchen, which was country, into stainless steel, blue cabinets and a shiny black floor. White walls. It rocks.
I love natural wood but a splash of color to break it up can really perk up a room or area. I'd vote for something like a copper color, based on what you've described.

There is a specialty Appliance Paint which can be used to repaint fridges & stoves. I used it years ago and worked a treat, pretty tough stuff too. Prepping the appliance for paint is time consuming but an absolute must. Most often these are an Self Etching Epoxy Paint which does not require a primer.
The critical part is prep... the whole surface to be painted MUST be 100% clean & degreased... the slightest bit and paint won't stick. Wash the fridge down with hot soapy water & dry thoroughly. Then use a commercial degreaser (automotive paint prep product). Some paints require a "scuffing" of the surface which is difficult with Baked Enamels (follow your paint's instructions carefully ! )
Here is a couple of products that can help you: Rustoleum Appliance-epoxy-spray paint Krylon Appliance Paint
I used the Rustoleum product and it worked, was tough and lasted a few years (till I got rid of those appliances anyways).
Hope that helps.

A darker cobalt blue looks great on some stoves that I've seen pictured.

Love that color! I have accents of it in my blue-steel-black kitchen. My cupboards are kind of gray-blue. The color is called French Court.

I had a local body shop paint an old antique fridge Red. I then had a guy stencil a coca-cola logo. The body shop charged $200 and my buddy didn't charge for the logo. It looked great on our bike shop.

Hmm, I dunno. Looks like they're trying to camouflage it! I suppose that would be a good thing if you're on a diet or trying to hide the food from someone who is, hahahaha!

Watching this thread...
In the very near future (after my cabinets are installed), I will be "repurposing" my current house fridge for use in the cabin.
Its the iconic "refrigerator white" color, and I think I am going to paint it black. I seen a house with very similar colors as my cabin with black appliances and it like how it looks.
Here is a pic of some of the cabinets just propped up in place. The fridge will go to the left of the pantry. I think black would look awesome

If you google "cammo refrigerator" and then go to images, you'll see a bunch. Pretty cool in my book.
Although, I do agree with Julie... it needs to match the whole room. Do you have cammo wallpaper or curtains?

@ KinAlberta
SO ? What did you wind up doing to your old fridge ? Any Pic's to share ??? Inquiring minds wanna know LOL..
I really like that Barn board coverup, especially in that particular cabin, it's perfect. I supposed that would have to be planed down thinner than 1" to something closer to 1/2" or maybe even 3/8's I would think otherwise it could bind @ hinges etc...
Did see one old fellah years ago put his Side X Side fridge (no water/ice dispenser) into an old antique furniture cabinet something like what I show below (just an example which is similar) which I thought was quite an ingenious use of an old piece of furniture.
He also made a "face" for their stove that pretty much matched up and he did the neatest thing for the oven window. He framed it like a it would have been an insert mirror (think furniture) but straight to the glass and he got some sort of liquid etch stuff and did a little design around the edges of the oven door glass which made it all look like it had always been like that.
Granted the old fellah was a carpenter and made light furniture in his retirement, so he knew what he was doing by wrote. While I really liked the idea and still do, it would certainly be beyond my abilities (and lack of tools).

Really cool!
For a stand alone unit that could be really unique. Unfortunately I've put ours into a under cabinet 'box'.
Paint wise, unfortunately, I haven't done a thing. Can't seem to get the time to get out to the cabin and start having fun.
