I'm curious how long folks actually keep/own their "cabin" property. We first purchased land 800 miles south of where we live. Beautiful piece of land on a mountain creek but seldom made the long trip. Never were able to get a cabin built... or anything for that matter and sold it 12 years later.
This time we purchased several acres of land under one hour from home and have actually managed to visit it often and get some things accomplished. Have owned for 2 years and hope to own it and pass on to our kids one day.

Our camp was built in 1953 by my father in law and a couple of friends. They abandoned it sometime in the 1970's. I rebuilt it in the mid 80's when I married his daughter. It is 14x24 and in Orwell, NY. He paid $200 for 50 acres of land in 1953. It is about an hour and a half from my home in Marietta, NY.

Bought my 5 acres in the California Sierras 8 years ago. It's a 5 hour drive so it's not really worth a weekend trip, but I go up every vacation I can, 3-4 times a year for a week or so each time. 5 hour drive is about the limit for me, but here in Ca that's how far you have to go to get away from it all. My place is in the northern Sierras, the central and southern Sierras are always packed with people from SF and LA who don't want to drive more than 3-4 hours. Very few tourists up around Lassen Park.

About 30 years, but the truck broke down about 25 years ago and it seemed easier to just stay.

43 years.Plenty of camping on many spots before we found the perfect place for our cabin. Lots of planning and saving.
It took us 34 years before we could build our cabin.

We are clearly the newbies here... bought our 11 acres in May of 2014. Like Cosby I want to make it a nice place to give to my kids.
