hi there small cabin friends! I have missed you all tons! We have really missed working on our small cabin on the coast and had to do some long and hard thinking after all that happened with it. Should we start over, should we rebuild, there were so many questions that we had and had to think about next steps. So we finally made a decision. We are going to keep the property...but we are not going to go up there again until long from now when our mentally ill neighbour is gone....it may be a decade but we own the property outright, taxes are nothing really, so we will wait a decade if we have to and start over.....that being said we didn't want to be bored for the decade, so we started looking in January for a lake house in the BC interior. We snowshoed into a real fixer upper in February and took possession in April of a 480 sq feet dilapidated shack waterfront on an amazing lake. So compared to our 10 x 16 "little house" on the ocean, we have lots of room in our "bigger house" on the lake. So now we begin the journey again!

Rebuild on the original? What happened to the cabin next to the nutbag? Did he destroy it?

Welcome back, that new place just looks like heaven on earth to me and I cant even see the lake from the picture.

TMT, if I recall and me memory is holding, I think that the mentally ill neighbour started a fire at their cabin and destroyed some of the cabin (if not most of it). It was a disturbing situation if I do recall correctly.

Congratulations and all the best on phase II - Nicalisa Lake House
And at some point, I sincerely hope you find some peace and calm with regard to the other property and situation.

All the best
Shayna

I am looking for a remote property in the BC interior. May I ask which lake?

Have a look at any of the lakes between 70 mile house and within 2 hours outside of Williams lake and depending on what you are looking for I am sure that you will find it. Get in touch with a local agent. We did and it made all the difference in our search. While I don't feel comfortable publicly posting on the net where we are I am sure if you start your search you will find an awesome place! We found some amazing places and with land value assessments decreasing it was a really good time to buy in the spring.

Yes, helping someone out without revealing personal info is the achilles heel of the internet. Can you recommend an estate agency in the area? I'm in Vancouver.

There is a great father son real estate team that has a great site where you are updated on any properties in the geographic area that you are interested in, price range, and lot details. You also get updates on price changes sales, sale prices....it really helped us understand the comps and values in the area as well as what was on the market for a long period allowing us to know who may be more open to offers. Best of luck in your search! http://www.royallepage.ca/en/agent/british-columbia/100-mile-house/adam-dirkson/22227 /

Hi nicalisa!

Great to hear the excitement in your voice! Sounds like a great alternative! Did anything ever happen legally to your neighbor?

I look forward to watching your new place come alive with all your creative touches....it is a very lucky cabin

Here's to new beginnings, peace of mind and good health.....you and your family are much deserving of all three!

Oh, btw, this is formerly trollbridge

Hi there Fickle_serendipity aka trollbridge Legally we went through the process with our neighbor mainly to ensure that he was medically evaluated. We were awarded damages of 17k for the arson and B and E (which will never happen as he hasn't anything and I couldnt bring myself to try to collect on this even if he did) and he was given 3 years of probation and mandatory medical servicing during this time. He is still quite ill, delusional, etc. at this time so I am quite sad for him as he is not well and not the neighbor that we have known for a decade.

I have been finished with treatment now for over a year and all is going well so I am looking forward to seeing what we can do with the new place!!

Here are some of the before pics! so as you can see we have a lot to do to get it into shape, but the view is to die for

I remember you and all that you went through at your other place! What a beautiful location you have now and a good cabin to begin working on! You'll be able to turn that into a dream of a place! And y'all so deserve it! Enjoy! Good to see you, too!

Spent the long weekend up at the lake house and the dock is officially installed!

I finished painting the cabin inside the main room and the small kitchen and my dear hubby finished the bracing of the cabin and the venting of the outhouse (much better!!!) I also finished the painting inside of the outhouse, reflooring it and hanging the pretty curtains I made from a reminant of waverly fabric....

My oldest was away for the week so my youngest brought a friend and they had a ball jumping off of the dock!!

Really like the entire design and will remember the build if my property allows for it once the time finally comes to pull the trigger.

I think a root/storm shelter would fit just fine tucked up under the cabin behind the deck if I can manage a north facing. Thanks for the idea it's great.
