neat trick to save some money.
the japanese with their ceramic research and the swiss (ifen I rememberz right) put together some amazing filters. I had a camping style hand pump filter I could pump out of a puddle with. man that saved some weight backwoods hiking / canoe trekking.
you can use sand as a water filter too. I think this was posted last year. google slow sand filter water. you'll get lots of good links.
just did a great adaptation for rain water too. with his system that water would be potable.
