Maine is getting crazy with taxes....and reg's...I have a camp up in northern Maine. After I made about 4 trips to the local sawmill to buy hemlock for board and batten siding ...the tax person came by to do a inspection and taxes doubled...

Not helpful I know, but think you're looking for a unicorn. Lived in the north for 30 years (Ohio, Maryland) and decided to go south. Off grid for a year now, no building codes (or inspectors of any kind in the county other than health...awesome) and taxes are looooow.
Good luck with the hunt.

I agree with the tick, for what you are looking for, the southeast is about the only place left for freedom from big brother.

Guys, you're sleeping. The laws are already on the books. Enforcement is not in place... yet. Don't sit back if this is what you want, they heat the water slowly .

Hi, I'm looking to buy 10-20 acres around Baxter State Park in Maine and build a cabin. Does anyone have suggestions for towns or areas? I'd like to be off-grid.
Thanks, Rebecca
