I'm looking for recommendations for a good trail camera. I really don't want to spend much over a $120 but I don't want junk either. Purpose of the camera will be two fold. Wildlife as well as security. My plan is to hide it in a hollow of a tree by the cabin. I would prefer that there be nothing such as a visible flash to draw attention to the camera. Video isn't important but I would like some IR capability. One of my issues is I have a neighbor who has admitted to taking fish out of my pond to stock his. I have politely told him that is not cool as stocking this was done at my expense and it was done by a plan and a permit
Any suggestions?

Not from me. I've had several and think they all were junk. So far I've spent about six hundred dollars on them. My old Moultrie still works fine, even though all the lcd display is gone. Three new small size Moultrie's have all quit. My cheap one from Menards quit too, as well as an old flash unit. Yes, you want IR, but the deer seem to see it. I'll be watching close the responses that you get.

Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Trail Camera >>>> I have had many different brand and this one for the money is outstanding!! I have 2 that I have had for 6 years and not one problem Of all the ones that I have owned this one has the best battery life. They hang their hat on that important part of a trail cam. They handle cold weather extremely well in minus temps in Dec. and Jan. I know an outfitter and these are the only ones he uses and the selling point is battery life. Good luck brother.

I have 3 cams. 2 are Bushnell that I bought from Sam's club for $100 each. They have been good cams and the batteries last for 3-4 months and take 15-30 second videos or still pics. I give these 2 a good rating.

I have a third camera that is wild game brand. It takes really good pics.....when it works. It sucks batteries like there's no tomorrow. If it's cold out they last 2-3 weeks tops. In the summer they last month, month and a half. When it takes pics they are good quality but it is very unreliable. Would give Wild Game a big thumbs down.

wild games innovation's is the WORST trail cam ever made....

I like Moultrie's...

but my best ones so far ....are Primos TRUTH Cam...

small and batteries last for ever!!!! AA batteries

and I have so many brands over the years....

I picked up a Primos' plot watcher and it takes pic's ( day time) ...I have not used it yet. Picked it up at Dicks Sporting good online sale for 14.99 ...it reg price was $ 119 figured I would use it around the cabin or to watch a food plot.

I have a bag of SD cards....and I just swap them out when I check cams....I run cams all year long....a least 4 or 5 are going all the time.

Best place to research and buy:

TrailCamPro

They have a great return and warranty policy.

Moultrie!!

My 60 & 80 have worked great for me. They were able to take good & clear pics of people and tag #'s of the meth heads that broke into my TN Cabin to cook their meth and burn my cabin down.

We have a Bushnell Trophy Cam that has worked really well for several years, but that was a $300 plus camera back when we got it and we had to return a few under warranty due to problems before we got our good one.

We have three Wild Game Innovations cameras that I got for $50 each on a Black Friday sale a few years back. Never tried using them until recently and none of the three will work. Total junk and waste of money.

If you are stuck in that price range, moultrie for sure. I have a couple of moultries, the 990i is a good camera for the price range.

With that being said, Reconyx is the best on the market for the money. It does not miss anything.

Well
After all the good info provided here and a bit of research i did settle on the Moultrie 990i. I did had to up my budjet slightly as with card it ran about $150. I also decided a metal case might be in order too. I set it up this weekend at my pond. Hoping to see some good wildlife and not my neighbor netting the fish I put in to stick in his pond.

I don't like the 5 second delays on these cameras. Why wouldn't they begin as soon as they register movement? In 5 seconds whatever set it off might be gone.

I just bought the Bushnell Trophy Camera. It was a bit over $150. I found you needed to spend $150 or more to get a good one. Also, its designed to last over a year on the battery's, hardly any units will do that.

After extensive research on the Chasinggame forum and the TrailCamPro site, I opted for the Covert MP6 Black through Wing Supply. Great price and great service.

These will be for all manner of wildlife... both 2 and 4 legged.

I am currently searching for a couple game cameras for the property. Great information here but it is an old thread. I am bumping it up hoping for updated information.
I am thinking about getting 1 IR camera and 2 daytime use cameras (summer is mostly daylight).

We purchased a "Spypoint 6MP Invisible Infrared Camera". We like it because it doesn't have a flashing red light and it is very quiet when it takes photos. The day and night photos are both excellent quality. We paid $147.16 at Amazon.ca but when I just checked the camera today now they are asking $296.10!! Yikes - what a price increase. Keep your eyes open for sales after Christmas.

I have a number of cheap Wildgame Innovations cameras. They go on sale at TSC in Canada at least on a regular basis. They are OK for what they cost, and I won't be too upset when someone steals one.
My biggest complaint is the delay between sensing motion and taking the picture. Sometimes its too late. I think its 15seconds as a minimum. Might be fine for deer feeding, but for someone driving by on an ATV, I miss them lots.

But you get what you pay for. There are some amazing cameras out there, but I'm not paying that much for something that I leave in the bush for months at a time.

I'm delighted with the Moultrie 990i I got
I will have to confess in making a rookie mistake when I first installed it. For three weeks all the pictures I got were me either installing or retrieving the flash card. I commented to my buddy as to this fact and he asked one simple question. What height did you put it at. Oh, about five feet. He told me to move it down to three feet. Now I get all sorts of wildlife and very little of me

I bought two SpyPoint Tiny-W2s cameras with the remote back up. I think I paid at least 240.00 for each. You can't use rechargeable batteries in the remotes, I didn't know that rechargeable batteries are slightly larger than regular batteries. I'm happy with them no major issues, picture quality isn't bad but not the best, as I have seen better.

Primos TRUTH Cam last forever on a few AA's batteries. Out of all I run on the farm the best/reliable cam I own.

That is the one. It does all sorts of tricks but I just use it for still images. It logs time, date, temp, and humidity for each picture

The less than 1 second triger speed looks to be useful.

I've had 7 cameras ... Agree Wild Game Innovations are not worth much...
And Moultrie is the best brand I've bought yet!

Bass Pro had the 880i models on sale for $99. Not sure if they are still that price.

My group has 9 running camera out as i write this and the 10 is in my hunting bag, new batteries and ready for a new set up. Agree with Richintheusa. Moultire appears the best we have used and we are still running a couple of those Wild Game Innovation cameras, but please do not spend money to buy one, they are not much and the only reason they our out, they are paid for and working, sometimes. Just put out a new Moultire 880 and love it. best camera of the 10 we have.

Hattie, the price on the Spypoint is steep considering how vulnerable it is to theft and damage. Most of the reviews however say it is undetectable...

That is a huge plus and definately worth looking into.
