Just wanted to say hi to all of you! My husband and I just bought a large woodlot (185 acres) with a small cabin on it. The cabin needs a huge amount of work and right now we are focusing on securing the land and getting rid of thieves and destructive, littering trespassers (see break ins\cabin security thread). It will be a life-long project. We do not intend to ever have electricity and barely get cell phone reception. A wood stove is all we need!
We went there Saturday and spent the day (the camp needs a new roof so we won't be sleeping there for a while). For the first time in as long as I can remember, I didn't check my work emails all weekend! I have never felt so free! We cut new trails, discovered new places, the kids found frogs and a garter snake and all kinds of other amazing things. It was just awesome! I should say both my husband and I work in offices and spend most of our days on computers, but the woods are where we truly belong. No TVs, computers, video games... just the brook to keep our drinks cool (also using a dry bag in a net strung from a tree with rope to keep food chilled) and a nice fire to cook our food on.
I can't wait to go again! I hope to get all kind of great tips and ideas from this forum!
