I was searching the net, looking for cabin ideas when I came across this site. This is totaly what I needed. I am a first time cabin builder. I purchased 11 wooded acres, in west central Indiana, about 10 years ago. Dad is now retired, and we are going to build a little weekend cabin together. After searching the web, looks like a 14' by 20' should suit us fine. We have aquired 2 old (turn of the century) barns that we have been reclaiming wood from. Originaly it was going to be 10' by 12', But after seeing the two barns that were given to us, we have more then enough lumber to double its size. There was also an old house on one of the propertys, we were able to salvage a few very neat 8 pannel windows and a very ornate front door. Not to mention an old "hoosier cabinet" that was all but untouched over the years. I am looking forward to gaining some knowledge on the framing aspect of this project. I will most certainly post up some pics as the progress happens!

Welcome seabee. Please do send some pictures. Reclaiming lumber is the way to go.

If you are using recycled wood invest in a compressor and nail guns. You will go crazy otherwise.
