I'm a teacher on sabbatical working on a book about people who have built replicas of Thoreau's cabin at Walden. I've found a good number of cabins built at schools and by museums, but very few by individuals for their own purposes. I'm looking for any information on how to contact people who have been inspired by Walden to build a replica. It's doesn't have to be exactly like Thoreau's, but it should be similar. For example, we built one at my college a few years ago that is 10 by 16 instead of 10 by 15, and is framed differently. I want to interview these people and photograph their cabins for the book. I just happened upon this website and I hope some of you can help me out.

Thanks Mike for the suggestions. I saw the posting from Trooper Dan who says he is building one this year. I know there must be dozens of people who have built replicas but they are hard to find. I've googled page after page and keep coming up with the same sites. Do you know of any other cabin sites where I might find such individuals?

Well there is a lot of cabin information at countryplans.com. Check out their forum and they have a pretty good search engine. You can also post a question in the general forum about Thoreau replicas.
It is a really great site. Discussion is not limited to the plans they sell. They really support any cabin building efforts.
Good luck!

Sounds like a very interesting book. If you would like to talk with me regarding a replica we built as a donation for a local arboretum, drop me a line at info@pinestreetcarpenters.com. Thanks!

Axel-
Take a trip to Massachusettes and go for a walk in the woods- around Walden Pond. Take a good look at the real thing and then build your dream. It will be worth all your time and effort!
