When I bought my property and built my cabin I cleared about an acre, thinking I wanted an open yard next to the cabin. I've been fighting underbrush ever since. I don't necessarily regret doing it, but in other areas around the cabin I've taken to trimming up the canopy as high as I can which opens up the views without causing the undergrowth explosion. For my tastes, this is the way to go and I'm very happy with the results and it's much easier to manage.
