Just joined so I am late to this thread but I have 5 acres, currently undeveloped, in Texas County, MO. I plan to start taking trips there this fall to begin building my cabin and other misc. outbuildings.

Welcome to the Ozark club. That's some pretty country over there, I was fairly close when I fished Beaver lake once.

My land is adjacent to the Buffalo National River on one side and a large Nature Conservancy holding on the other. I just have 2 sets of neighbors and we get along great. I am in Boxley Valley. (Newton County, Arkansas :: Upper Buffalo River) This is technically the Boston Mountains - which is rougher land than the Ozarks and some consider it as a different physiographic region.
I have a large cave with a permanent spring coming out of the mouth of it. Also lovely bluffs, stone walls, an old house made of 20 inch wide boards.
For $35 I can buy a landowners permit to hunt elk on my place but have decided to let a neighbor's kid hunt there. I love trying to identify the birds, vegetation and butterflies that abound.
I have been building my cabin, board by board for 13 years. It may never be finished but it is comfortable now. I have made so many mistakes and had to redo a lot over the years. I regret that I have worked too hard on my place and not stopped to enjoy the beauty like I could. Planning and designing my cabin has gotten me through many boring meetings.

Mine is in Stone County, Mo. lake front on Table Rock, so we fish off the back, just south of Combs Ferry.

Hello,
We are neighbors, I have land outside of Kingston about a mile from the Newton county line. If you know where Burney Mt. is, I am on it. Haven't built anything yet, still trying to find that one special spot. I am just the opposite of what you have done, I spend too much time just walking and thinking where the best spot would be, so many choices, some day I will start something.. I hope..

I live minutes north of Truman Lake (Gods Country). Truman Lake on one side, Lake of the Ozarks on the other.

I am actually a ways from 21, I am 7 miles down a dirt road outside of Kingston. My alt. way out comes out at the Red Star turnoff on 21.

Wow, my dream property would have a nice cave and spring on it. Very nice Boxley!
I've been rock climbing at horseshoe canyon ranch near Jasper.
The buffalo river is amazing! Would love to kayak/canoe it one of these days. The calmer portion anyway lol.

Hello im a new member, located in s.e. mo, gateway to the ozarks.
Does any know about building ozark stone buildings. im sure we have enough large rock to build several homes.
I did some chisel work on some of them and they broke in beautiful flat surfaces. if you look around you can find relatively square ones often.
id guess some type of quartz feldspar rock, and several other types.

We are getting ready to relocate to our new place near Jasper, AR. It's one of our favorite places in the US, so when this property came on the market we jumped on it.

I agree Whisper, I love the Jasper area. Going to be there next weekend for the ELK fest. I would trade/sell my property for a home in that area in a flash. Good luck over there.

It is good to see so many people from Missouri. I am on the edge of the Ozarks. I am actually outside of Bonne Terre on the border of the St. Francois Mountains on the Big River. Not as isolated as many of your cabins but only 1 hr away from my home in St. Louis. My cabin was built over 10 years ago but still is not complete. I am in the process of fixing the damage done by this past winters cold, cold, weather bursting pipes the have been fine for several years. I have a recirculating pump that circulates hot water from the water heater and it has allowed me to keep the water on for the past 4 winters, but not this year.

Well I am living in Lawrence county Missouri, about 20 miles west of Springfield. No restrictions in this county, I love it here. I only have 2 acres and a fixer upper we are making good improvements. Our fruit trees are in, the blackberry bushes are giving us berries, the blueberry bushes are giving us blueberries. Best learn about raised bed gardening lots of rocks in these parts. We have built several raised beds.
I am looking to buy a few acres down by tablerock lake. Someplace to build a small cabin for fishing times and getting away.
I read about Texas county in this thread, I used to own 8 acres out near the big piney river, if you are near that area check out the big piney, you will love it.

Hey cool topic. We are in the Heart of the Ozarks/Boston mtns. We're right on the Johnson county/Newton County line 30 miles north of Clarksvile Ar. We're on 8 acres of prime deer, squirrel, turkey and Ginseng land.
I was born and raised 30 mile west in the town of Ozark, Ar.

well I'm not in the boonies but just bought 2 lots ne of warsaw and have my 14x36 shed/ cabin being delivered in a week then I'll start finishing off the insides. 3rd tier from the lake of the ozarks
