I live in a floating cabin, but it's quite different from the one on ebay. Ours is built on a 40X40 cedar log float and is permanently anchored about 12 miles up Powell Lake in Coastal BC. We have a community of about 250 similar cabins on our 60 mile long lake. We live in ours about 3/4 of the year and just love it. We have solar and wind power and have a wood stove thermoelectic generator on order. We are so excited about that because in the winter we get very little sun. Of course our cabin cost a lot more than the one on ebay, but it was well worth it. We pay about $500 in water lease fees and $500 in taxes. That's a lot cheaper than moorage in a marina.

wow! That's a beautiful place. Wish you'd post more photos. Is that also a floating garden in front?

I read an article in a magazine (I think it was "Discover Canada" or something like that) while waiting at the Hospital once that was about your cabin!! that is cool! I remember the pictures.. :)

I bet it's fun to be on the water like that, does it ever get 'old' at all? other than durring wind storms that is.. lol..

The best place to see pictures is at the following link. I tried uploading a picture but couldn't make it work for some reason.

dabones - No, it never gets old. It is my favourite place on earth, even in wind storms. With our wind generator we now love them, at least most of the time.

Wow beautiful place but it would not pass the "Perc Test" in our area ;^)
Sigh ... the local bureaucrats have no imagination.

Just kidding; there are people who live in house boats in my town but none that are nearly as nice as yours.

We sort of have a perc test. Land based outhouses must comply with distance requirements from the lake and water courses. It is preferred to have on float composting toilets. Our leases spell out what we can and cannot do.
