I dunno what it is, but from the moment I step on our property and walk into the cabin my stress level drops about 75%.

I have to tell you, the moment I point the truck out of town and get past Walmart, I feel a sense of peace that words don't convey.

i enjoy going down to my cabin as well. Felt good when i checked and the gate was locked. And cabin--tractor and 4wheeler, golf carts etc were all fine. After being gone from there for a month+. Filled up up humming bird feeders , deer feeder's etc. and bet the critters missed me...

Just back from the cabin . . . we are very blessed to have a screened in porch that overlooks a small mountain lake . . . I call it the "Therapy Porch" . . . good for drinking wine at 5 p.m. or drinking coffee at 5 a.m. . . . stress relief!

My mind has always raced. Worry. Ideas. To-dos. Then all of a sudden I realize on the way there that I haven't thought of anything. My tension, stress and worries are nearly gone. Once there nothing!
The other thing I noticed is that two days and one night feels like a week... In the best possible way. Time slows down and we all feel revived. Do you experience this too?

We have a sign over our mantel that reads "At the cabin we forget to count the days".
It is true.

I am happier and more relaxed at the Cabin than anywhere. I feel the stress falling away as we make the drive up. I sleep great there and feel revived. Work and projects are enjoyable too... Its something ive never felt before.

Everything stated above rings true for me as well. I can even go up to the cabin and work all weekend, and still feel relaxed with very little stress.

This state of being reminds me of Your cabin in the woods by conrad meinecke. It is out of print, but you can still find it. If you haven't read it pick up a copy. It talks about a cabin being a state of well being and of course he talks about how to build simple/functional structures, how to cook with fire, etc. The prices are out dated, but this relaxing way of cabin life is not...

Ditto to the above. We call in our vegetative state Mostly we just sit and stare across our field and pond and watch the wildlife that goes through the yard.
We noticed that the residents at our property seem to snooze between about 10 am and 3 pm. Much more civil than a human rat race.
We head out to our cabin Friday after work and we are sitting sipping a G&T and a Laphroaig by about 6 pm taking in all the activities as the evening progresses. This way we get two nights and two early mornings each weekend at the cabin.

After we set up the cabin and clean up all the mouse droppings, dead bugs and dust than I can relax.

The other day I was feeling pretty down because a dead tree had blown over at the cemetery we look after up here. It took out a fence and landed on some graves. We came back to the cabin pretty depressed, but I had work to do.
As I was ironing some pillow cases for our motel, I heard a bird singing behind me. I turned around and there was a little cedar waxwing sitting on my clothesline looking through the open window and singing his heart out. He looked me straight in the eye as he sang, so I called Hubby in. When he came into the room, the bird stopped singing but kept sitting there staring at me. Hubby thought it was pretty freaky and left after a few minutes. I continued ironing and the bird started singing again. Just as I was finishing up, I thought to myself, "well little bird, I'll have to say goodbye for now" and he flew away!! Pretty strange indeed, but it took my mind off our troubles and sure made me feel happy inside. I love our cabin!!!
