Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if you need a permit to clear a driveway in a wooded lot in Ontario, Canada? How about other places? What are your experiences?

If you are in a rural area, there is not likely to be any tree preservation bylaws that would require a permit before cutting.
You might need a permit to join your driveway to the road, especially if the road is a highway. There can be restrictions on putting a driveway too close to a curve, for example, and specific requirements for culverts, etc..
And you might need a permit to burn the slash during the dry season, if it's allowed at all.

If you need to join the driveway to an access road over a ditch you might try getting the municipality to do it for you. That is what we did and other than having to wait until the work crew was in the area with the bulldozer they handled all permits and supplied the culvert. In our case since we did not have any access "approach" to our property and we are "good" taxpayers the municipality had to put the approach in free of charge. And as they were there with the bulldozer anyway we got them to "push some bush" for us to make our driveway/lane to our yard site. This turned out cheaper than getting a private contractor in to do it for us.
I suspect if you are not in some special green zone or protected area there would be no permits required to clear a driveway on your own property.

in ontario, you do need an entrance permit.... must be clear a certain distance in each direction and you may need to put it a culvert/fill to create the connection to the road if there is a ditch.
