I am currently stocking up on "long term food storage products" I would appreciate anyones reviews on the many different products available. We have taste tested a couple brands, ie Mt.House, Ready Reserve foods (Ramen Noodles LOL) We currently have several months worth of off the shelf can goods etc. but we are interested in some longer term items that wouldn't have to be rotated. Most canned goods have a shelf life of about a year or so. One of the packages we are interested in is from Wise products. Its called the "Meat Bucket" Has anyone tried this or maybe can tell us one of their favorite brands or products? Any opinion or reviews would be greatly appreciated.

Ramen noodles....... nothing like having a full stomach while you starve to death because of a lack of nutrition.
It would be nice to see a member name, IMO

didn't mean to upset you mouse. The ramen noodle comment was meant to be funny......ie LOL! I don't have a user name, but I am using a members computer to post my question. They suggested that I posted the question because of the helpful people on this forum. Thanks for your opinion. God bless you for your helpfulness. ANONYMOUS

Anonymous, You might look at some food supply sources that Mormon's use. I have seen Nitrogen packed legumes for long shelf life, but can't place a source. As pointed out some of the survival/self sufficiency, or EOTWAWKI groups could be of more assistance.

I don't want to mention any names but just received a "meat bucket" from a name brand distributor. Anon y mouse mentioned starving to death on Ramen Noodles. Just thought you should know, that the meat bucket that I bought for $100.00, has less nutritional value than $3.00 worth of Ramen Noodles from the Dollar Store. I don't want to offend anyone, but don't just look the price of your purchase, but look at the nutritional value of it. I was just trying to be a little prepared....(I have to admit.. I was scammed).. after all you don't want to wait til you cut your finger off....then think ..I need a first aid kit!!!!!!

I see a lot of preppers buy foods with 1 to 3 years of shelf life and commit to a solid roataion schedule. I am simply not that organized. I only buy #10 cans with a 25 year shelf life. Mountain House ready to eat dinners in #10 cans are excellent -- better than what I usually eat for dinner. I also buy basics like oatmeal, pasta and rice in #10 cans from Emergency essentials. I dont think I will ever branch out into flour, sugar and other baking essentials as I can not imagine baking a cake as the world falls apart. My advice would be to pay a little extra for ready to eat, 25-year cans.

I wouldn't spend 50 cents with emergency essentials if I knew for a fact the world was going to end tomorrow.
That is one nasty, nasty company.

Care to explain? I have had nothing but great service from this company. It is very easy to bash somebody without an explanation.

I am not "bashing" anyone and no, I don't care to explain on this forum. I was just expressing my opinion based on my experiences with them and the experiences of people I know.
You seem to take my opinion of them personally.
Has the right to having an opinion been taken away lately?

If you are going to call someone or a company "Nasty", I believe that you also owe them and everyone else an explanation. Otherwise it just makes you look like a troll.

I have bought from Emergency Essentials a few times and have not had any issues. I also can't say they are better than anyone else either.
I agree with toddheyn that it helps to know the nature of a complaint against a company.

I have never bought from one of those big freeze dry, suppliers.. I have a bunch of garage shelves stocked with canned goods, and dry goods.. I just started dehydrating recently as well. We're good for awhile if hard times come calling..

We leave all kinds of dry goods at our cabin. Just stuff from the grocery store. Rice, beans, bars, cocoa, coffee, and all. Even some stuff like syrup, hot sauce. It freezes, but no harm as long as it doesn't explode. I have backpacking food, too, but we keep it for those trips. I just don't think this is a big deal unless you aren't going to your place for a couple years at a stretch. We take pictures before we come home to serve as our grocery list for next time. Easy. My opinion only...
