40 acres off grid in Nova Scotia. I wanted a small cabin on a lake, but this deal was too sweet and its on a beautiful lake with only one other cottage at the far end of the lake. The previous owners lived in Germany the husband passed in 2007 so his wife listed it in 2014. I did however inherit a monster and the original cabin also, as you can see in the pics. I will create a future post on the Castle as you would not believe what was left inside and what his plans were for this place. This is the main place.

Good day everyone: I'm new to the forum and have really enjoyed what I have read so far. My wife and I purchased some property with a small (16×20) four season cabin with an insulated bunky that has a sauna in the back half.we also got bear proof shed and an outhouse. We are situated on a small lake in a chain of lakes located between Sudbury and Saul ste Marie in Canada. We purchased the 1 acre property in 2003 and just love being off the grid while we are up there. We have water access only. We really love the seclusion, with only four camps on the lake we have 1 whole side of the lake to ourselves with pure wilderness around us.The nearest town is 20 miles south once you get out to the hwy.
We have just started to get the stuff we need to put some solar power up there.so far we have 2 100watt panels and a 30 amp charger controller. we still need batteries and an inverter.
With our busy working lives and the 7 hr drive to the cabin,we only get up there a couple of times a year. I can't wait to retire!!!

Hey all!
In 1978 my parents moved us from the Vancouver suburbs to a little hunting cabin on a lake in the BC Interior - pumping water from the lake by hand and chopping wood all winter to keep from freezing is quite a culture shock for a 10-year-old kid!
Nearly 40 years later, I'm glad they kept the place, and it will be my inheritance one day. As I take over all the care and maintenance, I'm hoping this forum will be helpful for ideas and tips. Right now it's just a vacation place, but the dream is to live here again one day.
Ooooooold pic from back in the day:

I am new to this forum but I have been reading on it for so long I thought it was time to join. Thanks for having me.
The wife and I bought a small lot and have a 20x20 two story barn shaped cabin. Everything is pretty primitive for now. I don't want to owe anyone. When we save for thing like a well and so on we will get.
Our cabin is in the Tuscarora mountains 2hours north west of Harrisburg, pa close to a state forest and game lands. We have never felt freer than when we are up there. Bill

Hi Bill, Can you post a pic of your cabin? I am planning on a 12X26 Gambrel roof (Barn) with an 8x26 deck under a lean-to my door will be on the 26' side of the barn. I have had the property since February of this year. I have been doing a lot of clearing and cutting. Now I have a really good idea of where I want to put the cabin. We have been tent and truck camping on the property for now.
