8 acres in Klickatat county Washington, on the south slope of Mt.Adams. Off grid solar powered 12X16 cabin we built with mostly Douglas Firs and Ponderosa Pine.
It doesn't get any better. IMHO.

The Catskill Mountains of upstate NY at the base of Bearpen Mountain...the 29th highest of the mountains above 3500'. The town is called Prattsville, which was nearly wiped away from Hurricane Irene. The town has revived nicely...as there was flood relief monies to help rebuild for most. There's a laundromat, a liquor store, and a miniature department store that there never was before. The grocery store is locally owned and operated. I love the area because there is so much to do all within 30 minutes of my small cabin. Hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, skiing, dining, golfing...everything. The summer and winter tourism coming from our proximity from New York City helps a lot of local businesses sustain, but it's quiet here when and where you want it.

In my mind right now... In the process of selling our house in Georgia and moving back home to the Northeast. We are planning on buying a few acres in Upstate New York and building a small two bedroom cabin. New to the site and first post. A great forum !!!

I can't wait, Monique!!! I'm getting impatient and a bit depressed. I've done all I can here for now, grrrrr. I look at the weather for Bonanza and saw they may get freezing rain next week!
Cabingal3, that's lovely! I didn't think Crater Lake was that far from me. I'm jealous that you're camping on your land. From what I know, they watch out for that sort of thing in my area and you can get in trouble. I'm going to move up that way and rent an apartment until the cabin is built and inspected. I'll need an address for mail and bills and such, anyway.

My wife and I just purchased 12.5 acres in Ahmic Harbour Ontario. We don't have a cabin yet but plan on putting up a "bunkie" in the next two years (sooner rather than later). Once the bunkie is up we'll get into some more serious cabin planning/building and then use the bunkie as a guest cabin. We love this web site - the forums are so good!!
I hope to contribute more as we start building!
