Float Cabin

I have a float cabin on Powell Lake B.C. My cabin is kind of big so it is stretching the definition of cabin though.

I'm new to this community but I have already found some valuable insight from the members through the forum. Thanks!

Edit - this picture is a few years old. Got to get some new ones soon!

Please give us more pics. I love BC. I've been going there snowmobiling, mostly in spring. Please tell us more about the floating cabin and all the challanges.

Challenges of a floating cabin? That would take up the whole website! I live in Vancouver so I don't get up to the cabin as much as I like. However, I am heading up there next Tuesday for the week. I am putting some finishing touches to the back deck - it is 40' x 8'. It used to be only 3' wide so it is a huge improvement in functionality and safety.

Perhaps I will start a thread on this....

Is it a fishing camp? Many cabins here are hunting camps although I built a cabin on the top of Lake Superior in a little village of fishing camps. You floating cabin has got to be used to catch trout. Right of the deck?

I fish there a lot, but it is not specifically a fish camp. There are about 250 cabins on this lake - the lake is quite large, about 35 miles long and over 1200 feet deep in the deepest spots.

I've caught quite a few right off the front deck. The lake has Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee in it. Fishing is always good, rarely skunked, but nothing is huge in the lake - biggest I've personally seen caught is about 8 pounds.

Here is a side view looking south from a couple of years ago. You can see the back deck is way too narrow so I have extended it to the end of the floats logs (they are huge cedar logs).

The roof has also been replaced since this picture. That red roof is actually siding so it wasn't sealing well and leaking. Now it is silver and made of actual roofing materials. Much better.

I want to be your friend. That's so cool! I like boats, I like cabins, you got it all. Can you hunt there?

You can hunt there whenever hunting season is open. About 500 - 600 yards behind the cabin is an area that was harvested for timber. That was done about 8 years ago so it is clearcut with good visibility - perfect for deer, rabbits and grouse. It's growing in nicely though.
