Can it be removed and the spigot still function as designed? I understand the purpose of the valve, but in this application, there will be no risk of cross-contamination. YouTube has several videos on how to replace it, but I can't seem to find one that covers removing it altogether.....

I’m not familiar with this valve, maybe you can describe it a bit further, anyway here’s a bump for others who do understand.

What type of equipment? I’m familiar with them in boats but you really don’t want to remove those ones

This is on an outdoor water spigot. Pretty common. They prevent backflow from the hose into the rest of the household's water system, sort of like a check valve.....

So you are wondering if just the back flow valve can be pulled out of the faucet, rather than replace the whole thing; that makes sense but.....why bother?

Yes. And so I can more easily blow out water lines when winterizing.....
