When Jasper National Park had a forest fire this summer they had an out of control wildfire and couldn’t use their water bombers due to winds. This article and video highlights how powerful wildfires can get.
Be sure to watch the article’s short video:
Parks Canada surveys damage at Wabasso Campground after Jasper firestorm | CTV News
Hundreds of trees on the north side of the campground could be seen plastered to the ground, downed not by fire, but by hurricane-force winds that tore up asphalt and left tangled metal wrapped around the trees left standing. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/firestorm-caused-winds-up-to-180-km-h-at-wabasso-campgrou nd-leaving-trail-of-destruction-1.7019372

Even before that happened I had some very tough conversations with my insurance provider.
They are changing the rules for "High Risk" buildings and premiums will be going up. To get out the high risk category they advised my building must meet the following.
1. Non combustible roofing material (no asphalt shingles) 2. Non combustible siding material (no vinyl) 3. Non combustible material under any raised buildings/structures (structures includes decks). 4. 5 meters of non combustible material surrounding the structure. (i.e. asphault, concrete or stone).
Again.. This was before the Jasper fires, so I imagine they will be escalating those rules now. Sigh, that was super sad. I know 2 people that lost houses and one that lost a business.

Do you have an evacuation plan (A, B & C) if your location is endangered and asked/ordered to evacuate?

We do.. luckily we are only 2 miles from a major hiway. So evacuation isn't an issue for us.
