I have these clear window "clips" in the side tracks of my windows that are/were screwed in with a screw. I removed the screws thinking they were locks to prevent the bottom sash from opening any higher, but that actually didn't make a difference, and instead it made the window harder to open, like I deactivated some sort of counterweight mechanism to where the window won't stay up after I raise it.
The clips are still in the side tracks and now just slide up and down with the window, and I know I can line them back up with the original hole and screw them back in.
Anyway, what did I do? What purpose are they serving?

It sounds like those are the sash removal clips. My windows have these clips you pull out and that allows you to take the window sash out. In my windows the "counter weights" are actually in the sash. However, in many older windows that device is behind the track.
I'm wondering if you somehow disconnected the cords!

Here's a picture of them. These are newer windows, too.

Brand & model of window so we could try a manufacturer search for info? There may be a sticker someplace, often in s track that may only be seen with the window raised or open.

Hmm.. I really don't know..
Any chance you can figure out who manufactured your windows? Mine have a little sticker in the corner with the name of the manufacturer. If you could get that, you could call them and ask. I think that may be the fastest way to figure this out!
