My buddy n me are going out to our cabin for a few work/play days. He builds birch bark canoes. Told me that finding the old growth birch was difficult in the lower 48.
Since I've access to lots of birch trees he is going to show me what he needs n how to harvest it. And how to make the glue n stitching roots. Really looking forward to this

We have had a presentation on WI-PBS profiling the build of a B-bark canoe from gathering materials on up,fascinating stuff. Some years back I had the opportunity to paddle one with the owner, the liveliness of the hand carved paddle in the water and the craft itself were a revelation compared to the modern, even cedar-strip Ive been in.
