Still organizing stuff in my shop. In addition to a half dozen come alongs, found these that I have never used. Where did I get them? Heck if I know, sure didn't buy them.
I guess they are for vertical pulls mainly? Can they do anything a regular steel cable come along can't? Why would you use one instead?

Stronger and more pulling distance. Also chain is less likely to foul than cable and can be used to grip posts or logs. This is for a start

Thanks Bob. Yes I can see that. I wonder though, without doubling back like the cable on a come along if you get the same pulling power. I have another big one I put up above my gate, just for looks, and it doubles the chain so maybe that has power. It was frozen when I got it, I dunked it in a 5 gallon used oil bucket for a month but probably still stuck.

Doubling the chain means pulling half the distance with twice the pulling power.

They are just plain fun to use  I like the sound of the chain running through.
But likely not OSHA approved. Watch yer fingers

Another useful tool is the rope come-a-longs. (Rope Power-pull?)You arent limited by the length of the cable as they dont wind up on a spool, so the reach is as long as your rope is. I gave up on the cable jobs after getting the first rope come-a-long. It made building with log by myself a reality with a rolling log winch and being able to lift and move logs by myself.

I’ve had my eye on a rope come a long for a while but can’t get one at a reasonable price in Canada but as soon as the border opens back up I’m getting one. Saw one a while back and realized how much better they are than the cable pullers I’m using

This is a lightweight version I've been meaning to pick up. Says 450lb. but I figure I'll hook it under a rafter in front of the shop and if it will lift a 100-200lb. something out of the truck and hold it until I pull away that's good enough. Got a heavy duty hoist for the main beam inside the shop.

Ha, nothing worse than ratcheting something with a come along only to run out of cable and having to de-ratchet a click at a time to start over.

Dang, how did I get to be a 55 year old redneck and not know about these! I been fighting with the stupid wire one to drag stuff on trailer.
Off to order one!!
