So this is at my house...not the cabin but thought I'd share anyways. I have a ground level deck that's pressure treated lumber. We decided to buy a loveseat for the deck but didn't want to take up much deck space. I had an area to add onto but didn't want to spend the money on pt and wanted it rustic. So I made a small extension approximately 4x8 feet using wood cookies. I put a good base of sand down to help with drainage and filled between the slabs with sand as well. I know this will not last forever but it will be covered with furniture and I should get several years out of it. It was also free to do as I had logs to cut and sand.

My grandpa did that at his house when i was younger. Lasted for many, many years with no maintenance. By the time it breaks down you'll be ready for a new layout anyways!

Gee Wiz, I remember seeing something like that when I was much younger and had forgotten till now. That photo brought it all back, I love it and the timing is PERFECT as I was just pondering a problem and this is the ideal solution ! I really did not want to use patio tiles of blocks, just not right for my build and a wooden deck just wouldn' fit into it either. Plus I have scads of Pine, Cedar and whatever I want logs at hand, I think I'll go with the Cedar.
Thanks skootamattaschmidty !

Well glad it helps! That's why thought I would post it! I figured it was a different idea for folks, very rustic and inexpensive! I laid it like flagstone, making sure each slab was level and solid...the end result, a very walkable and smooth surface. Most my slabs are oak because that's what I had at hand, some pine, some maple. Guess cedar would be the best but it is what it is. I do like the look!

Nice! I have a pretty good stack of rock slabs, whatever they call them, awaiting use the similar way in the area behind my cabin.

Not the same, but it might last longer than you think: http://kaswell.com/about-us/history-of-woodblock/
