Took the dog on a hike at the back of my property this morning. On the way back down the hill I came across this fence. Not the first time I've seen it but I don't know why it's there, not on the property line.
Can we determine roughly the date it was built based on the materials? There was a house and occupants on my property up until 1966, when the house was demolished. Could this fence be that old? 20210221_095307_resi.jpg

small corral for some animals, hog pen etc?
I have something similar, barbed wire around post and trees. Now the small enclosure, the barbed wire hooked to trees is coming out of the middle of the trees as its grown around them. I suspect its back from the 50's or 60's

OK thanks. I suspect you are right TMT, some kind of pen, just odd as it's on a steep incline when there is plenty of flat area 50' further down.
So I guess those metal fence stakes were around 50+ years ago. Seems to have help up well, the wood too.

Why waste good flat land which could be planted on an animal pen? I seem to remember the metal posts from when I was a kid-that was 50+++ years ago.

Bob, good point, the small corral I ran into was also on a hillside. I will snap a picture of it next time I am out. Its just outside my east boundary on my back 40 in the SE corner.
