In 2006 after 25 years of saving we were finally able to build our 24'x34' hand scribed log cabin on the Worlds Largest Freshwater Island. Our builder started the cabin in his yard using white cedar, numbered the logs, dismanteled the logs and moved the logs to our site. pics_uploaded_8.8.06.jpg

Very nice. I, too, love hand-scribbed work. Real log cabin building.

Thanks for the photos! Memories of my youth. I use to assemble log home structures that were initially constructed in Montana. The logs were then numbered and delivered on flat bed trailers.

I can only imagine how exciting it was to watch your log cabin being built!
Your land is beautiful...you must be really excited for spring to roll around each year. The beach photo you posted on a different thread looks like a little piece of heaven on earth!

Thank You for all the nice complements!
We were not there for most of the building process. The cabin was finished in the fall of 2006 and we didn't get to see it until the late spring of 2007! Our builder was kind enough to take photos for us.
This is to be our summer retirement home since it is in Canada and we are U.S citizens we are allowed a six month stay without a visa. We're ok with that as we don't want to spend the winter months up there we want to be in FL,where half my siblings live.

Hi! Wondering how you are doing? I've noticed you haven't been around and I hope all is well?
I'm guessing not too much longer before you'll be back at your cabin,. Yay!

You are going to have a beautiful hand scribed log cabin, when finished. I think it looks great right now, and it will only get better. I like the tight fit of the logs the builder is a craftsman. Keep the pictures coming they are an inspiration for us all. Especially those of us who have a hankering for a log cabin.

Hattie, I found the trunk at the side of the road! You can see what it looked like in the first photo before I painted it.

Your log cabin is awesome. We have a log cabin as well and after the shakes needed to be replaced on it we went with the same green roof. The stairs look great too! Nice work! I love everything rustic!
