Well, I am nearly finished with my cabin. It has taken me all summer (hard to make time with work) I have to say Im pretty happy with the way it has turned out up until now. I am down to a month to get it finished because after that I go back to college, hopefully I can meet my deadline. The cabin is 10x14 and will have a loft and a fireplace. Woodstove heated, only have a generator now for electricity. No running water, but there is a spring nearby (about 20 feet away underground) I framed the walls myself and installed the door and windows. By dad and grandpa and friend helped me out with framing and putting the OSB up on the roof. It's a fun project and I look forward to working on it everyday after work. Best part is I have only spent about 1400 dollars so far. (I work as a contractor and for a lumber yard during summer, so I get some things from my boss). Plus the Veteran discount at home depot helps too My humble abode

I got the second window in today before the rain came. The windows were water tight, but I am hoping to get the roof shingled very soon.

Thanks, here are a couple more recent photos. Of the roof I put on and the fireplace in the front yard. I have typar for the gable walls, just havent put it on yet and I have vinyl siding too, but dont have the time to do that. Once i put typar on I can put the loft in and then the fireplace and everything will be shaping up nicely

Looks great!!! I really wanted to biuld a style like that in the worst way. Mine is only a 10x10 with a foot and a half rise of the roof. I had a care everything in by hand to get mine biult so I did what I had to do. I could drive to the spot I biult on. Looks very nice and yes it is all about having fun!!!!

Thanks a lot, Yea I have a lot of fun doing this. Nothing beats being up at my spot and getting away from everything. I will be putting a small lot in just big enough for a mattress to sleep on. I want to keep a majority of the ceiling open. I have a window for the front to the left of the door but I haven't put it in yet. There's a lot I wanted to have done before winter But my priority now is the woodstove and insulation.

Spent the Fall break from school (my 4 day weekend) at my cabin doing some interior work. I have decided to save some things until the spring such as the fireplace and chimney and the vinyl siding. For this winter I will use a kerosene heater for heat, oil lamps for light, I have 12V electricity hooked up via solar panels and a 3600 watt generator, just in case. Should be good to get me through several hunting trips this winter and some weekend getaways. In this photo you can see the paneling I have decided to go with and the laminate flooring gives it a nice rustic look. IMAG0560.jpg

| Paneling and you can see the solar panel system come up through the floor and stored in the 12V batt

Looks like the same Canyon Yew panelling I used in my cabin in Steuben County. I think it looks good.

Yea that's the Canyon Yew. The problem I had with this stuff is that it got really wavy after I put it all up. It was fine for the first week, but then after about two weeks there were some significant waves in the walls.
