My wife and I went on our registered traplines this week end for cleaning and preparing our future cabin location. We could take a few pictures when we were working or eating...LoL
We started cutting some small branches on that small road that gives access to our cabin location.
Almost done with the trail we will be using to go in/at the cabin.
Cutting wood behind the trees where the cabin will be.
Here's a few shots where the cabin will be.
Shed location
A lake picture
After working all day... We went at an old mine location where I found some old foundations and we ate a delicious meal with "Vino" ! BTW... I found plenty of wolves tracks around those foundations
A native dump on my wife's trapline we found
And before leaving this afternoon.... We had lunch in front of a river on my wife's trapline, chicken breasts and vegetables right on the road! LoL
And even in the bush... I need my "latté" coffee and I can make some that taste almost like the real thing!
Hope you enjoyed?
Next trip there will be to build the foundation and the insulated floor.

Yep...
Yes they're locals.
Won't waste my time with them you know, the reserve is close and don't want more problems with them... I have 200 square km trapping exclusivity so... Its a big playground.

Not the best idea but it needed to be done...LoL
16ft in a 6ft truck box
It was pretty hot hauling sand to cabin location.
First 4½" x 7¼" x 16ft beam in place and level
Both beams level and ready for action
Floor joists all in place
All done covered with plastic waiting for the walls (next trip)
We did not have time to pick up a lot of blueberries but we had the time to eat plenty of them. Next trip... we'll bring some more for the winter time (freezer)

I love the location! I may have missed it, but how far from that water are you at the cabin location?

I like your foundation. I've built a couple hundred cabins just like that and have had zero problems. Where are you? Looks like Canada or thr UP of Michigan.
Owen,
PS. you need a bigger truck and a wheelbarrow.

Thanks Owen! To tell you the truth, I looked at your threads and posts before building it...LoL Thanks! Took me less than a day of work and it was done. Fast, simple and "bravo"...LoL
I'm from Canada, province of Québec.
PS: my old 4x4 f150 8ft box went for the scrap 2 weeks with over 400 000 + km on it. Engine was still very good but the body was gone...LoL

I'm not close to water, I mean real close. I couldn't build close to the water (view on lake) because of the law. But there are many lakes and small rivers close to my cabin on my trapline.

Here's an update of my truss design. Hope this model is fine? Because I made all of them today.
I also made the first and the last truss like this. Hope this model is also ok?

Welcome to the forum! You are located in a beautiful area. I had to laugh when I saw the picture of the sixteen footers hanging out of your six foot bed! I have an eight foot bed and was hauling a hugh load of treated sixteen footers 2X8's, 2X10's, 6X6's, 4X4's, etc. BUT...I have a two foot deep tool box in the front of my bed. With the tailgate down, I had the same length hanging out past it. I bought 18 bags of sackrete (80#) just to hold everything down in the front going up the more than 600 feet in elevation to get to our cabin! Those were the good days
How about some recent photos? I'm guessing by your trusses, that you have some really heavy snowfall there, right?
Enjoy your build and take LOTS of pictures!

Thanks for the comments oldbuddy.
I will have some new photos at the end of the week. Leaving soon with the walls and trusses on a 8ft x 16ft trailer this time...LOL
Yes we get a lot of snow up there (starts in late October) and its better to be safe than sorry.
Pretty hot right now for installing a steel roof but it needs to be done.
more pics to come!

Looks good and solid. You've been working hard. Your trusses looks good to. They transfer the stress to the right spots.

I love dovetails...very nice!
On the table... I like the heavily sanded coffee color dye did a nice job. This soft satin look is simply made with many coats of sanding sealer sanded and sanded and buffed with # 0000 steel wool
