Awesome! I would love to hear more about the building process and especially the solar set up. We are starting a 20 x 30 sometime next year and plan to be 100% off grid, too.

My house is in the lower right in this photo, cabin is about 1/2 mile from main house. no problems building ponds as long as they are under 10 acres. then you must have them engineered.

All of the wood used in the framing, and outside bat and board was cut by me on a Timberking 1600 mill. cedar in loft area and trim was also cut on the mill. Had to let it dry for about 6 months.

Here are a few construction photos. most of the work was done by me and a finish carpenter. I installed the solar panels and wired the inverter and charge controller. Xantrex XW4024 Xantrex XW60 charge controller 250 amp E-Panel 8 Mitsubishi PV-UD185MF5 185 watt Panels Xantrex auto start for generator Xantrex Remote System control Panel 8 300 amp hour AGM batteries 6V wired for 24 volts
I mounted the panels on an old C-band sat. mount that I converted Each mount holds 4 panels and can be moved using the old Sat. positioner. MVC012S.JPG

Really nice looking place you have there. I'm confused about the roof. From the interior it looks like metal but then I see shingles in the construction photos. Do you have both? And wow about the snow- I doubt you get much snow down there.

Yes it is metal roof on the inside, I used it because it was easy to install, and I did not want to use Drywall or wood. We average 2-3 inches of snow each winter, with a 4-6 inch snow every 2-3 years.

It is southern pine, it had to dry about 4 months before I cut it on the mill. softwood unlike oak. Drying time is important to control shrinkage.

Thanks for posting your project.. Great idea using the C-Band Sat. mount for your Solar installation.. Do you have a source for acquiring these mounts. They would provide a great solution for our project.

Those were two that I had when I was using C-band at my house. They are alot of people that still have there old "dish's" and would be glad if someone just took them down. Scrap price's are high now so I am sure they may not be as many around. Check the forsale in your local paper and when driving around notice for any in yards. They just might give it to you just to get rid of it
