I have owned the property for almost 12 years but I started on the cabin in 08. All free and clear, no mortgage hanging over our heads. But buying everything out of pocket and paycheck to paycheck it takes a while. Alaska Cabin a

Coming up on 5 years from the time we bought our land till where we are at now. A lot of work but a lot of satisfaction too! Your place will be really cool when it is done!

45north Posted: 28 Dec 2011 01:59 I am up north, Tok Alaska, The snow is about 2 1/2 ft.
45north Posted: 28 Dec 2011 03:28 The cabin is 25X25 ft. square. Garage on the first floor with the living area on second floor and a half loft above the kitchen area. The roof is on but I still have some windows to install and insulation in the ceiling to finish. Plus all the plumbing and most of the electrical are on the list of things to do. The well is in the ground but not plumbed to the house. The crib for the septic is in and ready to use. Alaska Cabin -1

45 north, Looking great! Did you cut the logs from your property? and turkeyhunter would have had his cabin completed but he spends all his time (retired) doing what his name implies.

Thank you for the great replies,
Yes I am in moose country, the logs are called 2 sided 7 inch rough sawn, so they are milled top and bottom to be 7 inches tall and the inside and out they are the natural shape and conture of the logs. I also retain more thermal mass thay way

45north, How do you keep bugs from getting under the bark on the logs and reproducing?

Hello trollbridge, Well I am not sure, I do know that the logs were fire killed in 1990. And there are a few other trees for the bugs to choose from. I do not think my geographic area has real problems with bug infestations, I am not sure. This next summer I will be stripping most if not all of the bark off the logs starting with the outside. Good question though
