Those stairs are just......awful.
Sorry. "Death-traps" was my second choice. The rise must be at least 12 inches (7 1/2" is usually the max recommended). Little children are going to be going up and down those? The treads overhang the riser far too much and will become tripping hazards.
For the sake of safety (and peace of mind) I would decrease the height of the steps and turn the landing into a "winder". This will add one more step to the staircase but make it very safe.
The easiest way to build a winder is to build a square landing and attach it at the right height to the exterior walls and that post. Then build a triangle shaped box and place it on top of the square landing. Attach the lower and upper straight runs of steps to the landing and you're done.

10 in. actually it was ether that or a ladder they chose the steps.
I did add kick plates and a railing before I left, but you are correct they are not the best. The run and the rise add up to 18in.

There is another bunky on the property built unknowingly with partical board panaling these kids didn't want the whorped walls but wanted low cost so they got ucaliptus 1/8 in. underlayment ,should be stable . They are finishing the inside themselves. Its a learning curve they will always remember .

The county is making a neighbor redo their steps, and take up more floor space in the process. Different rules in different places though.
