Hello all
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jeremy from Elizabethtown Pa. We are finally building a cabin on my in-laws land that they bought in 1985. They purchased 96 acres in north central PA with the intention of building a cabin but never did. I married into the family 12 years ago and they are now putting my experience in construction to use.
We will be building a 16'x40' 2 story cabin this summer. I currently own a remodeling business as well as a helical pile business so my time to work on this cabin will be limited. For this reason we decided to have someone local to the property frame the cabin and finish the exterior. I (along with 'help') will finish the inside.
The septic system was installed in the late 80's before the rules about on-site septic system were changed. There are many active springs on the property so finding a source of water will be easy. I just need to figure out how to transport the water from the springs to the cabin.
I've attached (I think) a picture of this past weekend's work. I (along with my wife's uncle) cleared lots of trees, graded the area for the cabin, built up a berm uphill from the cabin, extended the sewer line above grade, installed a conduit to fish the future water line up through, improved the driveway up to the land and installed the helical piles.
The cabin will be supported by Techno Metal Post helical piles and be 18" above grade to the bottom of the floor joists. We'll insulate the floor joists with fiberglass batts and secure 2" rigid foam to the bottoms of the joists. The foam will be protected from rodents by 1/2" plywood screwed to the bottoms.
That's a long-winded introduction. Thanks for a great website.
